Victor Padilla

Victor grew up in Cataño, Puerto Rico. His parents separated when he was 5. After leaving his father’s home to look for his mom, desperate and confused, Victor became homeless. He spent his youth playing baseball and making friends. Victor was taken-in by a local baseball coach and made a home for himself. His new mother brought him to the States where Victor found his calling playing professional baseball. Victor reflects on his defining childhood and his adulthood as a youth in New York. He raised his family there until he ultimately found his home in Ohio. As an older gentleman the pandemic worries him. He worries about his family’s safety and the Latino community. Because of the mixed responses to the virus, Victor finds it difficult to understand COVID-19 and the precautions he should take. Now that he is retired his dream is to move back to Puerto Rico.
