Raymundo Garza

Raymundo Garza grew up in Matamoros, Mexico, on the dynamic border. Like many other kids from Matamoros or Brownsville, TX, Raymundo functioned and played on both sides of the border. However, Raymundo’s family enjoyed spending there weekends on the beaches near Matamoros. Raymundo reflects on growing up gay in Mexico, highlighting the cultural resistance at the time. In 2000, he started working in Cleveland, OH. Thereafter, he renewed his visas, began the lengthy permanent residency process, and ultimately completed the citizenship process. For Raymundo, shifting from Spanish to English was exhausting. Since the pandemic Raymundo worries about communities like Matamoros and Brownsville where social distancing is an abstract idea. Besides working at home as a Human Resource Talent Scout, Raymundo creates art, follows the developments of the virus, and keeps in touch socially distanced.
